You need to have DJO sync with native android contacts. You can set this up in the DJO settings and you have been asked to set this up on the first run of DJO when the wizard helped you setting up all the basics.
Make sure to not have your phone not sync to Google if you setup DJO to sync with the Google contacts account of your phone.

McLion is right,

Turn off Google Sync for Contacts and Calendar.

Turn on Sync with Android Contacts in the DejaOffice Settings.
http://www.companionlink.com/support/kb/DejaOffice_for_Android_-_We_recommend_sync_to_native_Contacts,_but_not_And roid_Calendar

Remember that this is a two way sync with the Account you select. That means that if that account already has contacts saved on the phone they will end up in DejaOffice. So that represents the possibility of duplicates.
SO a lot of people use this next article to make that process clean.
