I'm currently investigating whether DejaOffice can be a viable replacement for my current PIM tools.

In this part of the world we names that have can have a so called 'von' part, e.g., Ludwig von Beethoven, Claude van den Bosch, and so on. How can this be handled in DO?

Hello sciurius,

Thank you for your post. Welcome to the forums.
DejaOffice and CompanionLink Manage these types of last names seamlessly in the Sync.

Regarding Searching:
I just created a Contact with the last name:
Vas Von Van

I searched for "Von" in the DejaOffice search and it immediately came to the top.

I hope this information helps

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I'm afraid I misphrased my question.

In DejaOffice, there are fields for firstname, lastname, middle name and suffix. How should I store a name like Ludwig von Beethoven?

First name = Ludwig, last name = Beethoven. 'von' is not a middle name, and not a suffix. It is not part of the first / last name.

See, e.g., http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_%28Dutch%29
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Von

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I'll try to clarify the question.

DejaOffice has fields for firstname, lastname, middlename, and suffix.

In the case of Ludwig von Beethoven, the firstname = Ludwig, the lastname = Beethoven. 'von' is not a middle name, and not a suffix.

See e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Von and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_%28Dutch%29

I did post a reply -- twice, but it still hasn't shown up. Anything I'm doing wrong?

Thanks Thomas for your quick reply.

I'll rephrase my question.

DJO has firstname, lastname, middlename, and suffix.

In Ludwig von Beethoven, the firstname is Ludwig. The lastname is Beethoven. Where do I put 'von'?

Sorry for the mess... I retried since the posting didn't show up, and eventually they all got through.

Nevertheless, the question goes unanswered... any suggestions?

You can put it in the Middle Name field.
Any middle name more than two letters gets appended to the last name.

Thanks Thomas for your suggestion.

However, in Dutch we also have two-letter forms: "de", "te" and "'t". Will these be treated different?

How this is handled by DejaOffice will depend on the he Data.
