I am syncing 1400 Outlook 2003 contacts and process is taking 30 minutes end to end. This is entirely too long.

First I sync Android contacts to Deja contacts to get any Android changes. (2 -3 minutes)

Next I plug in USB and sync Droid to PC (First pass 3 - 4 minutes)

Then after saying OK to the Droid when above process completes the Droid "updates contacts" for 21-11 minutes.

Then need to resync Deja to Android contacts - 2 - 3 minutes.

This is an increidble timeline - H-E-L-P

Grundei, agreed this is way to long.

Why don't you turn off the sync to Native Contacts, and time just what it takes to sync DejaOffice to Outlook. In this case, your contacts will go to DejaContacts, but not to the onboard database.

Can you tell me how long that takes?

Update:
The tech guy had me power the DroidX down to kill whatever else might be running and that speeded it up considerably. After syncing several times (same sequence as above except not doing the Deja to Android step because that is included in the sync process) the best I have done is 4 minutes. Still slow - but MUCH BETTER than 30 minutes. Also a correction - I have about 800 contacts - I had counted wrong.

I still am pushing some duplicates around. But timing is much better.
