Adding contact to contact list after SMS

I asked a new friend to SMS me his info and when I received it, I added him to my contacts list. However, when I went to add more information to his entry, I could not find it via DjO. I tried sync-ing my Android contacts but still nothing.

Is there a way to do this or do I have to write everything down and then go in and create from scratch a new contact via DjO?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey Spazo,

What account was that contact saved to? It has to be the same account as selcted in the DejaOffice Sync settings. We can only sync with one account on your Android Phone. Contacts can save to all of them. I suspect this might be the problem.

I'm having this same problem. The account that the contact was added to in the native contacts application matches the same account as DjO. However, the contact does not sync with DjO and thus does not get added to Outlook. I've even tried manually hitting the read android data and it still does not get added even though the sync completes. I'm using the following:

Mobile Device and OS: HTC Inspire running Gingerbread
      DejaOffice version#: 1.11.9
      CompanionLink build # Version 4.0 (Build 4049)
      Data Manager App: Outlook 2010
      Sync Method: Wi-Fi

        Thanks for the reply Thomas.

How do I define (or even determine) to which account a saved contact gets saved?

          Hello Spazo,

When you create a new contact in People the first setting is a dropdown for contact type. Notice it lists your account there. That is how you define which account a contact is saved.

I was wondering how to change the default "type/Account" that appears in that dropdown. The idea being to set the default to thae same account that DejaOffice is syncs with. Presto! no missing contacts in DejaOffice.
I did a Google search and found nothing. I hunted through the configuration settings in our EVE 3D device and could not figure out a way to "set" the default account.
I asked support techs who own HTC phones. Nobody had an answer. If I find one I will post it here. Part of me is wondering if I am missing something very basic here, or if this is just one of those things Android does not do? If any users have some input, I am open to it.

Hey thanks for continuing to work on this and keep us in the loop!

I first tried to select a new account to associate the contact with but there wasn't the option. So I deleted the contact and then I saw the options you had written about. However I didn't see any option to select DjO; the only accounts I see are two Google accounts, an Exchange account, or my phone. I don't use any of those accounts as my primary email or contact book. That's why I use DjO to sync...

The account option will not be DejaOffice.
It will be the account you selected in the DejaOffice Sync Settinggs

              1. Open DejaOffice and tap settings>Sync Settings
              2. Contacts Accounts will have an account selected. Note that account.
Save your contacts to that account when you create or edit them.
DejaOffice will pull all the contacts saved to that account name.
We can only sync with one account on the phone.

              Does that make sense?

Hey Thomas, thanks for continuing to work on this! (Sorry for the delay but business had me traveling)

Yes your directions make sense but the account I have listed under "Contact Account" doesn't show up as an available "Contact Type" when I try and add the person through MMS. :/

                      Hi Spazo,

OK SO you get an SMS message from someone and you want make them a contact in Native Android (And eventually sync the contacts to DejaOffice). You add the name and details to the number from the SMS application, but the Android device doesn't allow you to save the new Contact to the account you want to save it too. XXXXXX-XXX@domain.com. Is that the gist of this issue?

                      OR
You save it to the new contact to the account you sent me via PM, then you sync DejaOffice and nothing comes over...

                      Please advise.

So I am mirroring what happens with an inbound SMS on an EVO 4G.
I tap Add contact and the first dialog is Create Contact under account and it lists the accounts.
I select one and it fills in that account in the Contact Type drop down.
You need to select the same account that is selected in DejaOffice to Sync with.
Do you see this dialog on your device?

                          Hey Thomas!

I don't really care about making the person a contact in the native SMS app. I just want to be able to add people to DJO from the SMS so if that means going through the native contacts, then ok.

When I receive a text from an "unknown number" I select "Save to People".
The next option I have (other than the basics [name, etc]) is "Contact Type".
Dropping down that menu it says, "Create contact under account" then lists 5 accounts; 3 googles, 1 exchange activesync (hotmail), and phone. None of those are the account I have listed in DJO>Settings>Sync Settings.

I feel like I may have not answered your question...
