DejaToday (4x4) Widget wrong after restart or shutdown

    Hi,

with new DJO 1.12.3beta there is one curious thing which hasn't been there in 1.12.2 or earlier.

When starting my Android (after shutdown or restart) the 4x4 DejaToday Widget displays no data at all:
    1. Headline does not show today's date, only an empty blue rectangle with DejaToday logo at left side.
    2. DejaCalendar area displays "no entries"
    3. DejaTasks area displays "no tasks" although I had removed Tasks from being displayed in the settings.

In addition I can't use the refresh button in lower right corner because the DejaTasks' area seems to overlap this button.

When I remove the widget from the HTC Sense desktop and add it again, everything is o.k.
In addition it seems (but I'm not quite sure) that after a while the widget refreshes itself and then also everything is displayed correctly.

Please have a look at this and fix it.

    Regards
    Arno

    Hi Arno,

Thanks for the update. Moving ofrward I will have the team look at the affect the update has on the Widget and the shortcuts. I noticed in a another thread you mentioned some strange behavior with the shortcuts as well.

      Thomas,

could your dev team reproduce this and will there a fix available soon? Indeed an "empty" widget direct after a phone's fresh restart is useless.

Concerning the shortcuts indeed after every (!) update of DJO (1.12.1 -> 1.12.2 -> 1.12.3) and even when I do an "update" with same version (1.12.3 -> 1.12.3) the shortcut logos disappear, only the text remains (For example 'Sync' is visible, but the logo is left blank). This behaviour remains even after a phone's shutdown or restart. Then I have to remove the shortcut and to add the same shortcut again, after that everything is correct, even after a phone's reboot.

Here is a fix expected soon.

Let me inquire about this again. Accessing shortcuts can be a challenge after updating.
I ran a few tests in-house updating to 1.12.3 and did not see this behavior. But I believe you both fully.
The work around of course is to delete the shortcuts and reset them. In the long run this needs to be stabilized across every platform if possible, or have the updater remove the current shortcuts and prompt the user to add them again.

            Hello Arno,

I want to make sure I am hearing your correctly.

            1. The 3 issues reported in this thread can be fixed by removing the Widget and reinstalling the Widget.
            2. The 3 issues you reported seem to resolve themselves after some time goes by. (Not 100% sure though)
If # 2 is correct, can you share an estimate of how much time we are talking about?

                Thomas,

thank you for the widget's debugging.

Do you know why shortcuts' logos behave strange on every DJO update? Will there also be a fix?

                  Thomas,

with 1.12.5 there has been a change in 4x4 widget --> blank data immediateley after starting the phone. But it is updated about 30 seconds (felt not measured) after starting.

But again after installation of 1.12.5 the shortcut logos disappeared from HTC Sense ;-(

                  Regards

                    Arno,

Did all your shortcuts disappear? I will check this on an HTC device in house.

They disappeared from my Desire S as well - again. Funny that the shortcuts actually work, it's just that the icon is not there anymore.

                        Thomas and McLion,

yes all shortcuts (I'm using Sync, Calendar day view and Contacts).
And yes, only the logos/icons disappear, the text remains and the shortcuts are fully functional.

Addition: It seems that only link shortcuts have this problem. The application shortcut 'DejaOffice' is o.k. after an installation.

I just attempted updating from 1.12.3 and 1.12.4 on two HTC devices (Did not test with the Desire... sorry ours is no longer a properly functioning device.)
None of the shortcut icons disappeared in the process. I did update to 1.12.5 through the Android Market.
                          Does this mirror your steps?

Also, did anyone try restarting the phone when the shortcut icons id not display as expected? If yes, what was the result?

My experience is that this always happens with a new version installation, but if I immediately reboot my phone they are all back.I'm rooted, so I have an actual reboot app, so this isn't really a problem. For people who aren't rooted, this probably requires a battery pull (been so long I am not sure), which probably is annoying. However, that seems to be the fix-- reboot.

Maybe that also give a clue to the developers.

That's my experience and it is very consistent. The icons always become the default program icon when I install a new version and they always change back with a reboot.
