Phone app caller ID and contacts

A recent problem has cropped up. I generally only answer phone calls if I have the number in contacts and caller ID works. Recently I've had issues where I don't recognize the number, they leave a voicemail and it was from a contact I had in Outlook/DJO. So I attempt to enter the number in DJO and I see I have at least 2 contacts with that number, usually google and djo. So I select the djo contact and the number is already there for the contact. Yet it did not connect for caller id to work I only enter contact info in Outlook or DJO. How do I make the phone app only recognize the DJO contacts?

    DJO 4.4.29 (Build 1186)

    Outlook 2010
    Sync: WiFi

    Bob,

If the "Native" android contacts has multiple internal Accounts (such a one from DejaOffice and one from Google, etc) it can confuse the Android Caller ID as you have seen. You can use these steps to purge contacts from the Google Native Contacts account, which will leave only the DejaOffice records:

    1. Open DejaOffice
    2. Tap Settings, tap Sync Settings, scroll to the bottom of this menu and tap the second to last option "Delete Contacts from Android Contacts App".
    3. In this list tap the Google Account and, then tap Ok.

A small warning about the above steps, certain "Native Account" types like Google and Exchange are "Connected Accounts", meaning if you delete those contacts in the phone, it also deletes them from that Account's Source (Outlook or Google). If you want the contacts to remain in the source, before doing the above steps, use these steps to disable the Contact Sync to the phone. When this is done, it will only delete contacts in those accounts locally on the device and not in the Source:

    1. Open the Android Settings (of the phone itself).
    2. Find the "Accounts and Backup" option and tap it, then tap Accounts.
    3. In the Accounts menu, select the syncing account (such as Google or Exchange), then tap "Sync Account".
    4. In this menu disable the Contact Sync slider.

Leave the Android settings, then complete the first set of steps, this will only delete the contacts locally in the phone and not the connected account source.
