    Location Picker in 3.1.2

    I very much like the new features (especially the 4x4 widget) of DJO 3.1.2.

    But one thing that is absolutely unusable it the Location Picker (don't know when it was introduced).
    If you have to navigate to the location of an event it might be nice to have Google help you to find the correct full address, but most of my appointments are in some meeting or lecture rooms close by. So I only want to enter a room number. With the new Location Picker I need at least 3 more taps to open "Enter location", enter the room number as Company name and confirm several times.

    When using a four line full address with the help of Google and sync it to Outlook, I can see it in the calendar, but can't edit it, because only the first line is displayed in the location field in Outlook.

    Please, is there an option to switch back to the simple one line location??

    regards
    Malte

    I see what you mean. This just popped up with the latest beta (you could go back to 602 to get rid of it for now), but it makes it very hard if you aren't looking for a precise location. Definitely needs a free-text option on that dialog box. Being able to pick a simple text field as default would be even better.

      I agree with Hook's comments, I need the option to have simple text descriptions of location. ( still the same in 623 by the way)

        Thanks for your comments.

        Here's our solution for this. What you should do is put your Room number or short location into your Contact list. Make the File-As field be a shorthand for it.

        I like using "x" for this, because it reminds me that this is just a picker.

        x10 = Room 10 in my office.

        xe = Exercise Room

        xSB = The Starbucks I go to that is nearest our office. (Maps actually pulls another one as closer.)

        When you enter this in the Location field, it will draw from the local database, as well as maps. Because of the File-As name, it will pull your room on the top of the list.

        See this video at 2:18 for how this works:

        As an Action item, I think what I'll do is when someone puts in an override and saves it, we'll put a popup explaining that you can make a shorthand using a Contact Record in your database.

        Our overriding goal here is to derive GPS coordinates for EVERY appointment. This is for current and future use in distances, timing and mapping. Also this sets up our transition to voice commands by making your common meeting places into a short entry that is easy to speak.

          Hi

          Not sure if you are heading in the right direction for my usage. Firstly I rarely have GPS switched on. Secondly 99% of data on my phone comes from intermittent connection to wifi connections as mobile data in rural areas here is terrible. Never mind 4G mobile I can't even get 3G!! We don't all have access to data-rich environments.

          I need a device which can be self contained as I have had before in my many years of using Companionlink with my Palms and now with Android.

          Please, please ......give us a simple way to enter a text only description for location as well as the all singing and dancing version.

            I concur with Cecil. I understand Duarte wants our Google devices thinking for us, but I don't. It's one of the reasons I'm not heavily invested in Google apps and use alternatives, like ...ummm, Deja Office...

            Please allow the option for non-connected usage. I spend 9 hours a day in a building with no signals whatsoever. And, honestly, I am rarely in an environment where I would use voice data input.

                I echo the sentiments above. I pretty much only use Location for things like meeting rooms, or more so in my case as a way of indicating a type meeting (ie, an "Online Meeting" or "Video Meeting", to distinguish from my regular in-person meetings). I've not yet used the Beta, but it sounds like a headache to use Location for simple things like the above, which is unfortunate. In my case I can probably get by with making a fake Contact, but I'm not thrilled with cluttering up my Contacts with that kind of thing. I'm happy with how Location currently works (non-beta), but I will admit that in watching the above video I can understand why DJO is moving in the direction it is--having those Location abilities within the Calendar will likely be very useful to a lot of folks.

                  This has been fixed in 627, on the General Settings screen you have the option to have Location Picker Manual or Always.

                  In Manual you type on the line, to use Location Picker tap the magnifying glass.
