Having trouble changing from WiFi to USB sync

I'm back again, trying to get USB syncing to work. In the summer I have to use it, no other options. I tried to follow my notes from last year, but can't get the phone and computer to connect. I've set DJO and CLO properly, restarted both several times with no success, tried starting the sync from both DJO and CLO. Furthermore, there's a new screen that DJO keeps going to first, for starting a sync; it seems to have taken over as the Home screen. It takes a couple of steps to get around it to get to Calendar, Tasks, etc
The phone and computer are connected - I can access phone files from the computer.

I found a newer version of CLO, downloaded version 9042, and installed it. But it looks as though I'm still at 8040. Do I need to buy that newer version, or is there something else that I can do to get the sync to work?

    Marjory,

For USB sync, do make sure both CompanionLink and DejaOffice are open, but you always want to start the sync from the Mobile side for USB. Two spots to check

    1. Open DejaOffice, tap Settings, tap General Settings.
    2. Scroll towards the bottom of them menu and ensure that "Local Storage for DB" is unchecked.

If it was checked, after unchecking it, return to the main DejaOffice menu, and tap Exit at the bottom. Reopen plug the phone in and tap Sync in DejaOffice on the Mobile with CompanionLink open on the PC.

Also in the DejaOffice Settings, Sync Settings, if you see an option towards the top that says Manual Sync mode, be sure this is unchecked also.

Manual Sync mode was checked; I unchecked it and will give it another try. Will report back later.

Thanks for the quick reply and suggestions!
First, I'm glad to have my home screen back to normal, from having that big Sync screen appear most of the time; maybe I triggered that when I checked Manual Sync.

Update on syncing - It didn't connect the first time. I restarted the phone (and computer?). Then it worked, and finished really fast; there were a lot of items to update that had been changed on the phone. Both sides ended properly.

I caught up older items in Palm, and synced again. DJO said it was done, and to finish tap OK in CLO; CLO was stuck on Closing Android, but I clicked it and it looked good. The last sync time didn't change on the main DJO screen from the earlier one, but everything seems to be completely updated; the time did update in CLO.

Everything was shut down overnight; this morning, sync started and ran quickly, but in CLO the Closing Android message never ended. Eventually I tapped OK in DJO and both were okay. I then made some changes in Palm DT and tried another sync; at first it didn't respond and I stopped it; then a few minutes later both sides ran and ended properly. Though right now the last sync time is correct in CLO, but DJO still says Yesterday, 6:15 pm.

Since Tuesday morning (5/25), I haven't been able to get them to sync properly. DJO is getting to the final message, while CLO does not, even if I let it wait for a while. And at the end of the afternoon, quite a few items were still in Calendar in the phone, even though they had been moved forward in Palm. The sync time is correct in CLO, and a couple of syncs back in DJO.

They did sync properly this morning, (Wednesday) and I haven't tried since. It seems to help if I do a full restart on the phone.

Last summer the USB sync worked quite well with this phone, so perhaps the various updates since then in DJO are a factor? If it's feasible, would it be worth reinstalling CLO build 8040 which I had had for a long time? When all this started, I installed a trial version which is 9042.

            Marjory,

Just to be sure, have you tried a different cable or a different USB port if possible? Are there any External Hard Drives or Thumb drives also connected to the PC at the same time as the Sync?

I'm using the cable that came with the phone, which also works with the wall plug for charging it.

This morning it did one sync easily, when very few things had been changed in DJO. Within a minute after CLO was done, DJO also was done.
Then I closed both Palm and DJO, and reopened both to make a lot of changes in Palm (mostly Calendar, and Tasks). I started another sync - after 1 minute CLO had the closing message, and at 2 minutes it had the Press OK in DJO to finish message. As I write, it is now 15 minutes since I started the sync and DJO is still on the Press OK message. I'm trying to leave it alone, but...... how long should I wait?

UPDATE - another 5 minutes later, I tapped the phone because the screensaver had started, it went to DJO with the closing message still there, and then it reacted and ended that message. I don't know if I happened to tap in the vicinity of the DJO message. Maybe next time I'll try tapping a blank section of the screen. The last sync time in DJO is when I tapped it, and CLO has the time when it was done.

Nothing else of that sort - just a USB hub for the printer and an external camera/microphone that I only use with Zoom. This morning I did unplug it while doing the sync that I described above.

I think/hope I've worked out what I need to do. Once CLO has finished, and DJO has the arrow spinning in the "tap OK when complete" message - first wait another minute or so, then tap or double-tap on the screen but not on the message or on OK. That seems to get it to finish.

I hope I'm not jinxing myself by saying this, but today it has completed properly - twice. CLO got to the final message, and shortly after that DJO did also. No extra tapping needed.
It shouldn't have been a factor, but yesterday afternoon I did also pay for the CLO update to version 9.

                      Marjory,

                      Glad to hear it's sorted.

For USB Sync in November Android is changing their Storage structure, anyone on a Android OS 11 or 12 device will need version 9 to sync. This won't effect any of the other sync methods.

Here is some more info: https://www.companionlink.com/suppor...nLink_USB_Sync

You will be all set since you have version 9 now, but just a heads up.

I have one lingering issue - getting DJO to its final message:
With fingers still crossed, I've generally been able to get the syncs done. My problem is that when CLO reaches its completion message, DJO frequently does not go to its final one. It stays on this one - Press OK when the PC sync is complete. Tapping the screen outside of the message box has no effect.
My current solution (after waiting a minute or so) is to leave DJO running, and go to or open another app in the phone; then when I go back to DJO and tap in a blank area, it does go on to the final message. Is there perhaps a setting I can change to solve this, or maybe something that you could update in DJO or CLO?
PS, I generally have to sync twice to get everything coordinated, because I tend to make changes on both sides during the day; between those syncs, I completely close DJO in the phone and CLO and Palm in the computer.

                            Marjory,

I do have a small update for DejaOffice with some tweaks for this:

On the mobile tap the following link to run this update:
                            https://www.dejaoffice.com/androidap...DejaOffice.apk

Some phone browsers can have some trouble downloading the file, so if the "Chrome" browser does not work, try downloading with the "Internet" Browser.

Once downloaded tap the Download Complete notification to open the installer and choose Install\Update. Open DejaOffice and confirm in the bottom left the build now shows 4.4.49 (1396). If so try another USB sync, any change?

                            NOTE:
If your Android phone displays an "Install blocked" message, do the following:
                            1) Tap "Settings".
                            2) Check the box for "Unknown sources".
                            3) Tap "OK", then restart the installation.

I didn't do the update until yesterday, Mon. 7/5, and it's now at 4.4.49 (build 1396). The first sync was fine, then the next time DJO wouldn't get to its final message. I eventually tapped OK anyway and found that it really hadn't finished. None of the changes I had made in Palm had been updated in DJO. I tried making a few changes in each, and 2 subsequent syncs did close properly - but a number of items did not match. Then I just tried manually updating both so they matched as much as possible and left it for the night.
This morning it synced properly twice. I still have a few things to correct, but as of now the original problem of DJO not reaching the completion message seems to have been corrected. Thanks for doing the update!
