Thanks for the follow-up, I will note this build. There is a spot in the General Settings for "UI Design". I am not sure how many styles this older build contained (there are currently 5 in the latest version), but those styles do change some of the main menu icons and edit panels.
Cannot read button labels - how to change?

Yep, did notice that. There are 2: DJO 3 Style and DJO 4 Style.
[Along with light and dark theme, and System Font and DejaOffice Font Typefaces.]
No joy thus far.
However, did notice, e.g. initial install release note display, grey button / light (bright) grey text starts, then quickly switches to light grey button with light grey text.
Which I suppose makes sense since being the only button it becomes the 'active' button, so gets highlit.
The mystery is ... this was first installed years ago ... and I don't remember this problem. You'd think something like this I would remember. So ... some form of larger Android ecosystem change (e.g. font, typeface, default colour, same for standard [OS] buttons) above the 'app level' changed? (Guessing, ergo, "mystery".)
