Move to a new device with Android 11

Just my experience, may be it will help someone else.

I needed to install DejaOffice on my new phone with Android 11 and move there all data. I use DejaCloud sync so I tried that only to find out that DejaOffice does not synchronize the Alarms. That is as good as unusable of course.

I tried to read the knowledge base, only found an article how to do it without sync. I falsely thought that it did not apply to me. I tried to contact the customer support by phone, recorder a message and that was it, no response, it was before the weekend. I registered on this forum and it told me that I need to wait for an admin to allow me post. I had to write them a mail to achieve that.
In the meantime I found an article how to move to a new device without sync. It said I needed to move the clusb folder to the new device. There was no clusb folder on my phone. Finally I found an article here on the forum explaining that the clusb folder was moved elsewhere (Android/Data/com.companionlink/clusbsync I think). That folder is not accessible without an USB cable, finally I got one and moved the folder and it worked.

So when the product already fails to do the most basic operation which is being moved to another phone without the user spending hours on obscure non-working forums, it would be really nice if the company at least updated the knowledge base articles from time to time so that they are of any use.

This is the worst experience I made with a commercial product for quite some time. I reinstalled like 50 apps on my new phone. If every single one would be so easy to move like DejaOffice, it would have been a task for some 5 weeks.

    Pulauten, welcome to the forums.

    I apologize for your experience.

Unfortunately we cannot call Czech Republic. The long distance rates are prohibitive. A tech emailed you within 90 minutes. You gave insufficient information in your email.

When you leave out the details - like saying "I moved DejaOffice App from one phone to another" without mentioning Android/iPhone or which of the 7 ways to move it (SmartSwitch, USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, DejaCloud, Backup, Direct file transfer) you get exactly the email we sent - asking for more information.

The change in Storage location is unique to Android 11 https://developer.android.com/about/...rivacy/storage

And is fully documented here: https://www.companionlink.com/suppor...droid_database

Back to your original point - DejaCloud definitely synchronizes alarms. Your perception that they were broken was probably some secondary setting on the Android 11 that was not set correctly.

So if you took a few minutes to check on that you would have found all your other actions to be completely unnecessary.

Thank you for using DejaCloud and DejaOffice.

I will not discuss the communication now since that is not that important. I insist that it did not work well.

The important point here is the synchronization of alarms. It definitely did not synchronize the alarms on my phone. The synchronization worked well when I ran it manually from the app, all including the calendar items was there but the Alarms list was empty (when I went to the main menu / Alarms in my Android DejaOffice app). Also the alarms did not ring (of course, when they were not there). There is no option in Sync option menu related to alarms sync. The only thing that helped was to move the files from the old phone to the new one.

As of the article, you have it on your home page as a popular one, here: https://www.companionlink.com/suppor...to_a_new_phone
This article mentions nothing about a change of the folder location in Android 11. So one must dig somewhere deep. Also you have some video how to move the DB between devices, again does not mention this problem.

        Pulauten,

We have updated the Setting up the new phone guide to show the location for both OS 10 and lower and OS 11 and higher. Apologies for the missed text here.

As for DejaCloud, we double checked this on our end and Alarms are syncing with no issue between two devices. Just to note, we do not sync past alarms, only future ones.

Thanks. As of the alarm sync that is really strange. It really did not sync the alarms, neither the past ones nor the future ones. The list of alarms was simply empty after the sync. I tried to sync several times. Calendar items were present. Very strange. May be I should have tried to uninstall the app and retry from scratch but I just thought that it would do the same.
