Palm Desktop will not start

This just happened yesterday, and I cannot figure out how to solve it. I use Windows 10, Palm Desktop in the computer, DJO on the phone.
Starting some time yesterday, Palm Desktop simply will not run, so I cannot sync the phone to the computer. I've tried starting it from the file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Palm - Palm.exe - and nothing happens. It's been so long since I've had any problems with it that I don't know what else to try. I do have copies of my "files" folder from yesterday morning and each of the previous 6 days. They look the same, except that yesterday does not have the alarmlog.txt file. I also have a complete copy of my DJO program and data files from May 2 (I do a big backup weekly with program as well as data files). Any suggestions are welcome!

We have seen this before. Two options:

1. Run Palm As Administrator and see if this works. Right click the Shortcut and click Run as Admin.
2. You could try moving the data file out of the Program files folder or the Documents folder. This is different for Palm v4 vs v6:

For version 4:

1. Open Palm Desktop
2. Click Tools > Options
3. In the General tab look for Data Directory > Browse
4. Create a new folder in the C drive such as C:\Palm or similar and choose this folder
5. Click Ok

For version 6:

1. Locate your database, this is most likely in C:\[your username]\Documents\Palm OS Desktop
2. Move all the files in Palm OS Desktop to C:\Palm <- create this folder
3. Open the Start Menu and open Registry Editor (regedit)
4. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop\Core, look for the Path variable and edit it to be the new file location C:\Palm
5. Restart the Computer.

Thanks - I have V4.2, and running as Admin did work - I next had to click on the Advanced button

Just note if Palm is in Admin Mode, CompanionLink must also be in the same permission level to match it to sync (Also in Admin mode).

All has been fine until today, when Palm.exe simply will not run. The file I have is dated 9/14/2005, which is probably the last time I downloaded it. Trying not to panic, but what can I do to get it to run?
A quick search suggests "Download Palm Desktop from www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads", but that link doesn't work, and I think I have the last version anyway.
I have Windows 10, version 22H2; using a Toshiba laptop that I've had quite a while. Everything else that I've done with it today has been fine.

Well, whatever I did or didn't do, this morning it's back to normal. Whew! Without thinking about it, this morning I did a sync and it ran as usual. Makes me realize how much I use and rely on DJO. My history goes back to the 1990s, with a then-new Palm Pilot.
