Why doesn't change due popup with press on due date in task listing

Every now and then I could press on the due date in a task listing and I would get a pop up menu of change status or change due date. This is not always possible and is very inconsistent. Why can't this be programmed to accept a long press in the area of the listed due date to bring up the short menu.

I'm mystified. This pops up fine for me, even on tasks that have no due date. Any press on the right most 15% of the bar pops it up. Galaxy Note 2 here.

Is this on your Moto X phone? Or your Tablet?

I think I have the hang of it now. If I press all the way to the right I bring up the pop-up menu that contains edit, edit note, etc. If I move the press slightly to the left, just at the beginning of the date field, then I get the change status and change date pop up. This may be something that is only particular to this phone.
