    Incomplete Sync

I've suddenly run into a BIG PROBLEM that I don't know how to address. I routinely sync my DJO with my Palm Desktop (at least nightly), but tasks I enter from either the iPod or desktop sometimes don't get carried over to the other. And to make it worse, they also sometimes disappear from the device I entered them on!!
I've watched the CompanionLink screen and the DJO display during the sync, and things look normal until they reach the CL message "Reading tasks" followed by a number, which may be as low as 1 or up to 100 or more - I had 285 tasks total last time I looked. Then everything stops moving. I sometimes get a message, I guess from CL, that the Deja Office connection is lost, and I guess it is. If I get back to DJO, I often see a message that the sync in complete, with the right number of tasks shown -- but the one or two tasks that I've just entered may be missing, in one or both places. This behavior seems to happen mostly with repeating tasks, but I can't be sure it's confined to them.
Something that may be connected: I recently had occasion to restore the Palm Deskktop ToDo list from a backup (first time I'd done so) and when the smoke cleared, all the category assignments were gone from DJO, and set to "unfiled" in Palm Desktop. I've restored them manually, mostly. It was a few days after this that tasks started not to transfer.
This system has been SO reliable in the past that it really shakes me up to see it fail suddenly. Do you have any (quick) advice for me? The settings and devices I use are shown in my signature, and I'll be more than happy to supply anything else that's needed. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Bob, I would definitely update CompanionLink to a newer release. We are making changes on iPhone with regard to recurring tasks, and an old version of CompanionLink may cause problems.

CompanionLink Daily Builds - Inhouse bug fixes and beta release page

I hope this will restore reliable transfer.

Please do this again next time DejaOffice for iPhone updates. There are further changes to Recurring Tasks (now regenerate) which impact both the DJOI side and the CompanionLink side. These should be complete by Mid-October 2013.

Thanks for advising me to put up a new CompanionLink. I've now installed Build 6001.0 (CompanionLink 6.0 BETA). BUT I haven't yet tried to sync again out of sheer terror - I've had to do a LOT of work restoring my DJO data, and it isn't finished even yet, so I've been using DJO ever since without syncing at all, because of fear of being wiped out again. And of course I'm not comfortable with that -- no backup. Can you suggest an additional way I can back up my DJO data, so I could feel a little safer trying the new CompanionLink? I don't use Outlook; I do have a Google account, but I've used it only sparsely for calendar stuff and never for tasks, which right now is my main concern. Can you suggest some step(s) I could take?
Also, I wonder if I've clobbered the data in my Palm Desktop? I might need to change the parameters when I sync, to be sure the current DJO data gets transferred - ?

Bob, I would recommend contacting support. DejaOffice internally makes backups prior to a sync, so it would be good to check if there is a backup. The tech can help you find where they are stored.

With Palm Desktop, the sync also makes backups.

That being said, it is always handy to make some manual backups just to be sure:

I'm back after a couple of weeks -- sorry for the delay. I still am not trying to sync for fear of losing my data in DJO, on my iPod Touch. Reading the previous message, I find I'm not sure what "support" means: Deja Office or CompanionLink? or how to make contact. I have learned, from CompanionLink displays, how to find the backup files which CompanionLink creates. so I'm looking mainly for backup of the Deja Office data. Can you help me?
