Can you make a Category Private?

Can I make a category "private"? I know I can make a "contact" private but I would like to make an entire category private.

Thanks in advance (I love DejaOffice - very close to Palm Desktop which I think is the best but......)

Right now I think the "Private" marker is only on Records in Tables; Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Notes. It is not an attribute that can be applied to multiple records.

It is possible to write a query to convert all the records in a category to private. https://www.companionlink.com/suppor...aOffice_PC_CRM

Our team would have to help with the text of the query - but once it is set, simply choosing it will mark any new records as private.

Alternately, choose the category, switch to Grid view, add Private in the grid so it shows, and just click the check all the way down. This is a low-tech way to change a lot of records quickly.

      Hi Wayland,

Thank you for the quick response. I may not have been very clear in my question. I am not trying to make multiple contacts private, but I am asking if a "category" can be private? I was hoping to add multiple contacts to a "private" category that way when I elect to unhide the category all of the entries in the category would be shown.

      Thanks,
      Jay

Jay, when you make the records private, and also "hide private", then they are hidden.

When you then temporarily "unhide private" then all your private items are shown for a set time period.

So this will show all private records at the same time which is what you want.

So what you want is already done. But not on a category basis. Simply on the basis that when you unhide - all private records are unhidden for the specified time.

          Thanks Wayland

I get what you are saying and this does work but the private entries are scattered throughout the list (alphabetically for sure).

What I was thinking was to see all of the privately marked entries listed/lumped together.

I can solve this by creating a "Private" category and then attach that category to each private entry and in that way they will be all listed together.

I would suggest making the category name "Personal". This is the old Palm convention, and if you use our Sync System there is special handling available for this category name.
