Merging Categories

When I converted to Deja from ACT! There were too many categories. I am wondering if there is a simple way to do this. Categories are easy to delete. But, for example, I wanted to merge “Excavator” with “Excavation” so I renamed the category “Excavator” to “Excavation”. I then got a ticking sound and Deja was frozen. I shut down Deja with task manager. When I restarted the Excavator category was gone and the former excavators were now in “Deja Office Category”
Is there a better way to do this?

If you Rename one category to the name of another it will merge the records in the two.

That's exactly what I had hoped. But, can you explain the ticking? Will it eventually stop? It went on for some time. Note, these were not particularly big categories

I don't have any explanation for ticking other than possible the hard drive doing something odd when we are saving changes to the database file. The only sounds we have are turned on in the Settings > Alarm Settings. Is "Alarm Sound" enabled here?
