    USB sync not starting sometimes

I'm using USB sync, and your recent fix took care of the problem of it sometimes not closing. That seems to have been consistently good since then.

I'm still having problems with CLO sometimes not responding when I start a sync. There's no obvious pattern to it. Sometimes the first sync of the day connects immediately, other times I have to disconnect the cable for a bit and then plug it in again. Then it varies during the day, sometimes connecting and other times needing a nudge. I give it about 15 seconds before unplugging it when necessary, and another 5-10 seconds before plugging it in again.

Is there a specific order that I should be using to start a sync? My current routine is:
Close Palm DT and CLO, and
close all open apps in phone, including DJO
    Connect phone to PC
    Open Palm DT and CLO
    Start DJO
Tap Sync in DJO, and watch CLO to see if it reacts

If it does not, disconnect cable from PC for 5+ seconds, then plug it in again
When done, tap OK in DJO to finish it

    Marjory,

Are there other External Drives connected to the PC like a Thumb Drive, or a Portable Hard drive? For USB sync CompanionLink has to scan the drives list to find the Phone's storage as the PC essentially just sees the phone as a hard drive. More external drives can increase the time it takes to scan for the phone.

Generally nothing else is connected. It's a laptop and I only have 2 available USB connections. The 3rd is the thing for my wireless mouse.

This sequence seems to help, but not consistently:
Close all, and close background apps in phone
In system tray, exit/end CLO there also
        Unplug phone
        Start Palm, then CLO
Plug in phone (or maybe after opening DJO?)
        Open DJO
        Start sync

Perhaps a related question - does it matter if DJO stays open in the system tray? Somehow when I was first troubleshooting this, it seemed to help if I end it there, so I've continued to take that extra step before each sync.

CompanionLink is fine to keep in the system tray, we did try to make fix this, but just to note we can not get a second USB sync without disconnecting the device first. So if you have synced, you would have to disconnect and reconnect the USB cable to sync again.

When you plug the device in, are you able to see the phone's files via the the file explorer on the PC?

Normally, yes I always see the folders in Explorer. Oddly just now I looked and although the phone was on the list it had no contents. Replugged it twice and then they are there, phone and card. I don't think I'd ever noticed that before.
Since it doesn't seem to cause any problem when I do unplug-replug if the sync doesn't start, would be be okay/safe to just wait to plug it in until I've started Palm, CLO and DJO?

              Marjory,

That should be fine. Just remember for the USB sync the PC has to see those folders. I believe if the phone is locked it won't display them on the PC. If it was unlocked perhaps try a different USB port or a different cable.

At the risk of jinxing myself, this sequence has been working for me:
Close Palm DT, CLO, and DJO, and close background apps in phone
                Unplug phone (if connected)
                Start Palm, then CLO
                Open DJO
                Start sync
                Connect the phone cable

I then see the phone react to being connected, and within a few seconds the syncing message appears.
Thanks again for your patient help!
